Children will contribute positively to the future of our world -both terrestrial and marine-if their sense of belonging and identity is nurtured. Their understanding of the implications of human activity and physical processes on the environment are key and we believe this knowledge and learning will drive pupils' learning.
Each term, 'Unit' planning explores key geographical themes. Over a sequence of learning opportunities, we aim to capture a snapshot of pupils' knowledge and understanding as a starting point for questioning, thinking and reflection.
Often we begin with familiar ideas which resonate closely with a pupils' personal experience in order to make learning tangible and meaningful. This is usually in the form of a 'Launch Lesson' were children 'live' experiences and examine first hand.
By the end of a 'Unit' we aim to have facilitated wider learning so that children have a consolidated understanding of the concepts being explored.
At the end of each 'Unit', children reflect on the journey of their learning and are assessed as to their long-term memory fluency.
